Guest Authorship Program

The IFEMED Journal Club is responsible for publishing the IFEMED Journal, an annual periodical that explores issues of relevance to health professionals in developing countries. Since its inception in 1976, the journal club has been charged with the responsibility of producing high-quality, cutting-edge research journals and we have delivered excellently for 44 years. We are now in our 27th Volume with our publications available online and in print in libraries around the country and internationally. The Journal is widely cited globally due to its high impact publications. Presently, we rank in the top 2% of all publications on Academia globally. Known for its exceptional standards, the IFEMED Journal is well respected within and outside the Obafemi Awolowo University. While we get a high number of membership applications every year, the competition is always remarkably stiff and the journal club can only afford to take a handful of persons as per our binding constitution. However, the Editorial board recognizes that research writing is a critical part of advancement in the health sciences, and members of IFUMSA (who are not members of the journal club) seek to be a part of this advancement.

It is on this note that the Editorial Board of IFEMED Journal officially launched the Guest Authorship Program to involve Clinical Students in the research writing and publication process in the 2021/22 Journal Year. The program is open for application again this journal year. Hence, the Journal Club is calling for applications from interested participants. Interested persons will be paired with a senior member of the journal club and an Editorial Consultant will be assigned to the pair with whom they will work closely to produce a high-impact review article, which will be published in this year’s journal themed “Current Advancements in Clinical Practice in Nigeria.” The journal will cover topics across various advancements in sub-specialties in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics and Public Health.

Application is only open to Clinical II and Clinical III Students of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University. All other inquiries should be addressed to the Editor-in-Chief via ifemedjc@gmail.com.

Eligible applicants are to indicate their interest as a guest author in writing. The letter is to be co-signed by two members of the Journal Club in their class who can vouch for their commitment to the process of research writing.  A “statement of purpose” should also be submitted with the application letter. This will allow the Editorial Board to reach an objective conclusion regarding an applicant’s suitability as an author in the Journal.

Application materials are to be addressed to the Editor-in-Chief and submitted via ifemedjc@gmail.com on or before Friday, 12th of April, 2024. Research writing is a time-intensive process, and will require a great deal of commitment. Please note that applications will be processed on a first-come-first-served basis.
